2023 Financial Year: Gothaer outperforms the market in terms of growth
Cologne, April 19, 2024 - Gothaer Group CEO Oliver Schoeller will present the figures for the 2023 financial year at today’s balance sheet press conference. The Gothaer Group is reporting premium revenues of € 4.9 billion – an increase of 7.2 percent compared to the previous year and growth of 6.5 percentage points above market level.* Despite inflation and recession concerns, the Group was able to further strengthen its equity base in 2023 to around € 1.57 billion by the end of the year (previous year: € 1.50 billion). Consolidated net income is in line with Group strategy at € 78 million. Premium revenues in the corporate client segment rose by eleven percent, thereby further strengthening Gothaer’s position as a leading partner to SMEs.
Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG reached around € 2.4 billion, which is twelve percent above the 2022 level and 5.2 percentage points above market. A new record result of € 136 million was achieved in new business, corresponding to year-over-year growth of around 44 percent. Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG’s consolidated net income is € 25 million.
The international rating agency Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings reconfirmed the Gothaer Group’s rating at the end of 2023 despite a problematic market environment: Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG, Gothaer Lebensversicherung AG, and Gothaer Krankenversicherung AG all have an ‘A’ rating with a ‘stable’ outlook.

2022 Financial Year: more than nine percent growth in Gothaer’s corporate insurance business
Cologne, 31 March 2023 – At today’s balance sheet press conference the Group’s Chief Executive Officer Oliver Schoeller presented the figures for the 2022 financial year. Gothaer Group’s premium revenue in 2022 was € 4.6 billion (2.3 percent lower than in the very strong previous year).* Despite inflation and recession concerns, the Group strengthened its equity base again in 2022 to € 1.5 billion (previous year: € 1.4 billion). Consolidated net income is € 83 million (up 1.3 percent). Corporate insurance premiums rose by 9.1 percent, enabling Gothaer to consolidate its reputation as leading partner to SMEs.
Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG were € 2,157 million, which is 6.7 percent above the 2021 level and 2.7 percentage points above market. A record result of € 94 million was achieved in new business, representing a 30 percent increase over the previous year. Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG’s consolidated net income is € 42 million.
The international rating agency Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings reconfirmed the Gothaer Group’s rating at the end 2022 in spite of the problematic market environment: Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG, Gothaer Lebensversicherung AG and Gothaer Krankenversi-cherung AG all have an ‘A’ rating with a ‘stable’ outlook.

Geschäftsjahr 2021: Gothaer weiter auf Wachstumskurs - insbesondere im Firmenkundengeschäft
Köln, 7. April 2022 – Bei der Bilanzpressekonferenz präsentiert Konzernvorstand Oliver Schoeller heute sehr gute Zahlen für das Geschäftsjahr 2021: Trotz Corona-Pandemie und der Unwetterkatastrophe Bernd wuchs der Konzern gemessen an den Beitragseinnahmen um 3,0 Prozent auf 4,69 Milliarden Euro. Dabei tragen alle Sparten zum Wachstum bei. Auch in einem herausfordernden Marktumfeld konnte die Konzern-Eigenkapitalbasis weiter gestärkt werden: Zum Jahresende 2021 lag das Eigenkapital bei 1.422 Millionen Euro (Vorjahreswert 1.326 Millionen. Euro). Der Konzern-Jahresüberschuss stieg um 13,4 Prozent und erreichte 82 Mio. Euro.
Die gebuchten Bruttobeiträge der Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG stiegen um 4,2 Prozent auf 2.022 Mio. Euro und überschritten damit erstmalig die Schwelle von zwei Milliarden Euro. Das Geschäft mit Unternehmerkunden erreichte 1.052 Mio. Euro (+5,6%). Der Jahresüberschuss der Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG lag am Jahresende bei 80 Mio. Euro*.

Gothaer achieves growth in premium revenues and strengthens its capital base in the 2018 fiscal year
Cologne, 12 April 2019 - The Gothaer Group is announcing good figures for the 2018 fiscal year, with gross premiums written at Group level up 2.1 percent to € 4,383 million and consolidated net income of € 119 million. Despite the challenging framework the Group’s financial stability was reconfirmed in 2018 by another 'stable' Standard & Poor's rating. The capital base was also further strengthened – with end-of-year Group equity at € 1,159 million (prior year: € 1,036 million). Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG rose 4 percent to € 1,810 million, and it reported a net profit for the year of € 73 million.*

Cologne, 11 December 2018 – Group CEO Dr Karsten Eichmann presented robust figures at the meeting on the annual financial statements with the press. Gross premiums written at Group level are expected to rise by 2.0 percent to € 4.38 billion (prior year: € 4.29 bn). One of the key growth drivers was the property and casualty insurance segment. Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG are anticipated to be € 1,826 million, which is 1.3 above the 2017 level. The international rating agencies, S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings, have reconfirmed the good ratings for the core companies in the Gothaer Group with a ‘stable’ outlook.
2017 Financial Year: Gothaer Strengthens Substance and Drives Forward Group Restructuring
Cologne, 15 May 2018 – The Gothaer Group can present good figures for the 2017 financial year: the consolidated net income rose 5.6% to €165 million. Equity grew 8.0% and stood at €2,154 million at the end of 2017. Gross premiums written at Group level rose 0.3% to €4,424 million. Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG rose 5.8% to €1,822 million. At the same time important milestones in the implementation of Gothaer 2020 Group strategy were reached: the digitization of the business model are progressing in all parts of the Company and new, more efficient structures and processes have been set in motion.
2017 financial year: Gothaer strengthens substance and retains good rating results
Cologne, 12 December 2017 – At the press event on the annual financial statements, the Gothaer Group presents sound figures: its consolidated net income for the year is probably up 1.2% to more than €164 million and strengthens its equity-capital basis. Group equity is likely to grow by 5.4% to €2,113 million by the end of the year. Gross premiums written at Group level rise 0.7% to €4,443 million. The international rating agencies S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings for 2017, too, confirmed the good rating results of the Gothaer Group's core companies; the outlook is 'stable'. Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG, probably at €1,822 million, are up 5.9%, well above the 2016 level.
Change of consolidated financial statement from IFRS to HGB from 2018
Cologne, 26. Juni 2017 – From business year 2018 Gothaer Versicherungsbank VVaG will provide its annual consolidated financial statement no longer according to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), but again upon German Commercial Code.
The background for this decision are high costs for the implementation of the new IFRS reporting requirements for insurance companies.
2016 financial year: Gothaer posts sound result and again strengthens equity base
Cologne, 30 May 2017 – The Gothaer Group is submitting sound figures for the 2016 financial year: the consolidated annual surplus rose 17.4% to €162 million. The Group's equity grew 8.8% to reach €2.004 million at the end of 2016. Gross premiums written in 2016, at €4.411 billion, dipped (-2.3%) compared with the previous year owing to the launched consolidation process. In a historic low-interest environment, the Gothaer Group can report good investment results overall: the result earned from investments rose 32.8% to €1,612 million.
Gross premiums written by Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG, the Gothaer Group's casualty/property insurer, at € 1,723 million, were 1.2% above the 2015 level. The company showed sound growth with a clear success focus and was able to perceptibly improve its loss ratio.
